ONLINE SAFETY TIPS

Your personal safety should be your top priority and you should always use caution and your best judgment when communicating with or meeting new people, both online and offline. You should appreciate that all information submitted on the Website might potentially be publicly accessible. Important and private information should be protected by you. We are not responsible for protecting, nor are we liable for failing to protect, the privacy of electronic mail or other information transferred through the Internet or any other network that you may utilize. Please be aware that by clicking “Allow” under the Facebook API, you agree to make public with other MixChats users your age, gender, birthdate, full name and geographical location. Through our required Facebook login, the MixChats community is being filled by users with more reliable as well as verifiable identities (as opposed to users with fake, miscellaneous identities).

Below are tips that can help you have a fun and safe experience while using MixChats.

How Can You Block Someone?

We want everyone who uses our free video chat site to enjoy the time they spend here. If someone is harassing you or threatening you in any way, you can block the user by pressing the red “Block” button in your MixChats video chat box.

SHARING INFORMATION

There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you. When communicating with other users, you should:

  1. Always be cautious when deciding whether to share personal information that could reveal your identity.

  2. Avoid sharing information in addition to what has already been made public (by hitting “Allow,” you have agreed to shared your age, gender, birthdate, full name and geographical location to MixChats users. Avoid sharing with users your personal email address, place of work, home or business address, phone number or other identifying information while you are emailing or video chatting.

  3. Stop communicating with anyone who attempts to pressure you into providing your personal or financial information or in any way attempts to trick you into providing it.

  4. Use an anonymous third-party email address for your dating purposes, on the occasion that you decide to reveal personal information.

  5. Trust your instincts and immediately stop communicating with anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable or apprehensive.

Although MixChats users must login with their Facebook account, and therefore provide their identifiable information, MIXCHATS DOES NOT ROUTINELY SCREEN ITS USERS, INQUIRE INTO THE BACKGROUND OF OUR USERS, ATTEMPT TO VERIFY INFORMATION PROVIDED BY FACEBOOK USERS OR CONDUCT CRIMINAL SCREENINGS OF OUR USERS. We believe that providing background checks would lead to a false sense of security since databases of criminal convictions may not be up to date, not all convictions appear in background screenings and criminals may circumvent even the most sophisticated background screenings.

MIXCHATS DOES NOT ENCOURAGE USERS TO MEET IN PERSON

MixChats does not encourage users to meet in person. However, on the instance that this occurs, we advise users to take the following safety precautions:

  1. Always meet in a public place at a time when many people are around.

  2. Use your own transportation to arrive at the meeting. Never have the person pick you up from your personal home address or office.

  3. Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you will return and set up a predetermined time to check in with them.

  4. Bring a friend.

  5. Bring a cell phone with you so you can immediately contact emergency services or a friend for help if necessary.

  6. Stick to non-alcoholic drinks.

  7. Don't leave your personal belongings (mobile phones, purses, wallets) unattended.

  8. Never worry or feel embarrassed about your behavior. Your safety is far more important than the other person's opinion of you.

AVOIDING SCAMMERS

If you suspect a user is trying to scam you, we encourage you to stop the communication and block them by clicking on the "Block" button in the MixChats video chat window. Always remember to use your head. Oftentimes scams involve one or more of the following:

  1. A user contacts you from somewhere far away, often in another country.
  2. Scammers often refuse to meet face-to-face or talk on the phone. Instead, they would like to send you SMS messages, use your personal email or meet you on a video chat website (other than MixChats).
  3. A user directs you to a pornographic site.
  4. A user asks you for money (this is often in the context of an urgent need such as travel back to their home country, hospital bills and medication, obtaining official documents such as a visa or as a short term loan to recover from a financial setback.
  5. A user tries to sell products or services online or offers you a job opportunity.
  6. A user claims love for you right away.

We also encourage you to “block” any users that are or provide obscene, pornographic, abusive, violent or otherwise offensive photos or content. Simply click on the "Block” button within the MixChats video chat box to block a user.
